A couple of years earlier, I got comfortable approaching strangers and asking them for a picture. "Don't smile," I would say. "Just be yourself."

A young man with gorgeous eyes and wide open mouth stares directly at the camera. He has very blue hair and is wearing a very purple fuzzy hat with a yellow fuzzy flower on top. It is 10:00 a.m. and it is very possible he has been drinking, as have many people in San Francisco's annual Bay to Breakers race.
