Trump has been railing online today about impeachment of judges, including J. Boasberg, who is presiding over the Venezuelan deportation case. He’s precipitated an unusual public response from Chief Justice Roberts who condemned calls for impeachment over disagreements about judicial rulings. 1/ https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/trump-makes-first-call-for-judges-impeachment-amid-court-fights
Roberts is, typically for him, cagey in his comments, saying that appeals are the proper route for disputing judicial rulings. Yesterday, I wrote that on the merits of the deportation case, Trump likes his chances with the Roberts Court. https://heidi-says.ghost.io/trump-aiming-for-contempt-of-court-fight-to-be-on-his-terms/ 2/
I think there is still good reason to believe that the Roberts Court will eventually expand the President’s national security powers beyond all precedent and U.S. constitutional design. I understand Roberts as attempting to simultaneously reassure Trump about that while also seeming to stand firm on behalf of federal judges. This eat and have your cake too approach is very much Roberts’ style. 3/

I'm seeing it as a pure PR play on #JohnRoberts part to buff the cred of #SCOTUS
Anyone who is paying any attention knows that #LeonardLeo's implementation of the #SupremeCourt is designed for one purpose only:
To enshrine the #UnitaryExecutive as #UnitedStates #Constitutional fact
I'm not so sure that is true.
Given The Criminal's penchant for corruption and his mercurial nature, both Leo and Roberts want to ensure their continued ability to control the outcome of their long term efforts to gut the social safety net and the regulatory state.
They want an executive powerful enough to change government to their liking, but not one so powerful that they can push aside all other power brokers and do what they want unilaterally.
