I hesitated to cancel my subscription to the LA Times because it does excellent reporting on some topics, including water issues (thanks largely to @ianjames) and bird flu in California. Yeah, its political stance is atrocious. But when it added AI use — even limited use — on top of this, I finally cancelled.

I don't like having to work around a paywall, but so it goes if I want to have my spending match my ethics. NYT, WaPo, Substack newsletters and The Guardian were cancelled long ago — The Guardian for its transphobic staff/pieces. Sigh.

The Guardian · LA Times to display AI-generated political rating on opinion piecesBy Lois Beckett

@jeridansky @ianjames I cancelled mine as well , but still read it occasionally fairly easily via library database.

@mtechman Yeah, I need to see what's available via my library. But most of the time one of five tactics works to circumvent a site's paywall.
