SFBA Moderators

Hello, !
After careful consideration, we have decided to limit our federation with Threads.net. This means that, while existing connections to Threads accounts will remain in place, most Threads content will no longer appear on SFBA.social. We have more details on the information hub.

We look forward to hearing from you, and welcome your input. Thank you for being awesome, and happy posting.

@moderators Thank you, mods! This is good.

@moderators thank you, this seems like a good approach. I appreciate your thoughtful approach to moderation.

@moderators Thank you. Personally, I’d probably prefer full defederation, but I can understand wanting to have some stability for the community who does have connections over there.

Hopefully, this is at least a warning heads up, and if things escalate and defederation is necessary it doesn’t feel like it comes out of nowhere.

@moderators Makes sense to me. I do think "We have not received any reports of problematic material since our initial federation" counts for something but maybe only so much given the recent changes in policy. I appreciate your desire to protect us using what mechanisms are necessary.

@moderators As for the benefits.of federating with Threads, to be honest it has been less than I expected. I follow a few accounts but the feature set of the federation is limited and I'm more likely to find interesting accounts on Bluesky and the Fediverse. Can't really speak for everyone, but at least for me I won't say you should let severing my following relationships be the main consideration here.

My own experience with following a few accounts on Threads has been largely the same as that.

@moderators Can you explain the technical details of the "limiting"? What will I be able to and not be able to do?

@audiodude @moderators The main effect is that content won't appear in your feed unless you follow the posting threads account. However, if you already follow an account on threads.net you shouldn't see much disruption.

However, posts, boosts, and replies from threads.net accounts you don't follow will not be part of your feed or the federated live feed.

@cd24 @moderators ok cool, thanks for the prompt explanation!

@moderators Good call! Thank you to the whole team for everything you do to keep this community a positive, welcoming and inspiring place!

@moderators I’d already started reducing the thread count of my feed.
