We saw a moose mom and yearling today on our walk. It was a very gloomy, windy day so this brightened our walk immensely! #Alaska #AlaskaWildlife #Moosetodon
@MicheleV_AK What an incredible experience! What was the distance between you and those glorious creatures?
@really_elizabeth Hard to estimate, but I would say 20-30 ft., maybe a little less. They both ignored me, but I chose not to continue up the hill to the Peace Garden.
@MicheleV_AK @really_elizabeth Ooh that's closer than I would want to be (I mean for moose specifically, each animal is a bit different). Glad to hear they were in a chill mood though.
@soaproot @really_elizabeth For me, it's all about the ears. If the ears are up, things are okay; if they are back or flat, move along! If there are calves, turn around and go the other way.
@MicheleV_AK @really_elizabeth Well you have a lot more experience than me. I'm going to stop before I end up moosesplaining based (mostly) on what one Yellowstone tour guide told me about getting charged.
@soaproot @really_elizabeth It can be very tricky, but after 25 years, I've learned a little something about them. My hubby is a hunter and a lifelong Alaskan, so he knows much more than I do. I am ALWAYS careful!
