@williampietri Isn't there a book out there with the title "Everything I Needed To Know I Learned In Kindergarten"?
@EndicottAuthor @williampietri There is. The trick is that you need to be able to read.
@EndicottAuthor @williampietri yup, banned in the US though
@williampietri I taught my kids that this is really the most important thing they need to learn in life, and everything else they need to know is a consequence of it.
@ben I was for a moment very confused, as right now most of my replies are about this post: https://sfba.social/@williampietri/114253607318827957
@williampietri that's a good one too. I have a flowchart that says "Is it yours?" And there's only one arrow coming out of the diamond, labeled "no", pointing at a box saying "don't mess with it"
@williampietri Found it.
I call this "A comprehensive flowchart of appropriate children's behavior."
@williampietri
Now you know why they're gutting the education system. Can't have those pesky books about not judging others by your standards infecting minds!
Caring about others is now enough to get a person deported into a "Work Will Set You Free" camp here in the USA with no way out. Wish I was joking
@williampietri
So I should give all my friends some sweeties, a teddy bear and a Tonka Toy?
@CppGuy that's a pretty condescending comment, isn't it?
@deepmud
No, it was a joke about how I wanted to be treated in kindergarten.
@CppGuy @deepmud The two aren't mutually exclusive. I get that you were trying to be clever, but, well: https://whatever.scalzi.com/2010/06/16/the-failure-state-of-clever/
That's a very long way to call me an arsehole for making a lighthearted joke.
@deepmud And of course I have been blocked for being critical of his behavior.
@williampietri oh well. I'm certain you'll survive.
@deepmud I'll struggle through! Always nice when the trash takes itself out.
@CppGuy @williampietri That would make my day
Remember to lick the sand off the sweet you dropped, before giving it to your friend.
The "in kindergarten" belongs to "I was told" not to "to be treated".
And this gives you the freedom to not have to act with the restrictions of your past but with the circumstances of today.
If you still want to give your friends teddy bears, then do it!
Be the child, you want to be. In a world of toddlers being president, you won't even stand out.
Except you decide for the innocent child. Then people might find you strange. But it wouldn't matter. The world of the "adults" isn't important for a child.
Be the one, who is naturally kind.
Be the one, who is naturally interested in new stuff.
Be the one, where people feel naturally save next to you.
And don't worry about outbursts of anger. They happen sometimes.
@AdeptVeritatis thank you for clarifying. I really didn't understand the sentence. Maybe because I'm not a native speaker. @CppGuy @williampietri
The sentence is ambiguous: it can be read either way. English has lots of ambiguities like this one, and they usually go unnoticed. Occasionally, humour can be found in a reading that the writer didn't intend.
@CppGuy @Tom_ofB @williampietri
Although I try to write clearly, I constantly face situations, where people read completely different, what I wrote.
People have different starting points. With the same path, they come to different solutions. Or they interpret my "direction signs" in another way and take a different path.
But I am not frustrated by this fact. It is often a source of new perspectives and different ways of thinking.
I can't force people to read it in my way. Ambiguity is nice!
@CppGuy @williampietri I know this is a joke but: ‘yes, actually’
From each according to ability, to each according to needs
@williampietri yeah, it's basic Sesame Street shit. That's what offends me so much about it all
Best sleeper line in 12 Angry Men:
Racist juror, angrily: "Why are you so polite?"
Watchmaker, politely: "For the same reason you're not. It's how I was brought up."
@williampietri @prehnra Remedial Daniel Tiger for everyone
@williampietri
I was radicalized by the Christian cult that told me to Love my neighbour the way I want to be Loved exept he is gay or bi or trans. A cult telling me to help ppl in need exept they are migrants. Fuck, I can't even Tell how much I hate ALL of the Cults. Hail fucking Satan, Hail Lucifer, Hail Phosphoros, Hail Lightbringer, Hail to the Morningstar! And, oh, FUCK THE CULTS!
@Itchy
@williampietri
Burn all the Shit down! Shatter their Altairs to dust! Let the Fire cleanse!
@Itchy
@HailSatan @williampietri @Itchy
All the things you are hailing are cults, too.
Maybe addiction shift doesn't solve the underlying problem.
@AdeptVeritatis
There is no absolute good beeing, No imaginary friend the Cult hails. There is no absolute evil beeing the Cultists call Satan. But Satan can be used as a Symbol for Freedom, Wisdom, Equality. And a HUGE Plus is: you can perfectly fine Trigger the Shit out of the Cultists with it. I consider myself Part of The Satanic Temple.

@williampietri @Itchy
@HailSatan @williampietri @Itchy
Guess, what the others are doing! They do exactly the same.
"God can be used as a symbol for freedom, wisdom and equality."
YOU believe in an imaginary friend. But not as your friend but as the friend of others.
God as a being is YOUR imagination. You project your own imagination on other people.
Follow your own stuff and don't distract yourself with the nonsense about others. Arrogance is the opposite of freedom, wisdom and equality.
- "I'd like everyone to be fed, have a roof over their head and for everybody to be happy and have a voice"
- "You're a radical with dangerous ideas"
@Beldarak @williampietri I mean, it hasn't ended that well for a bunch of folks, like Jesus, MLK.....
@williampietri Sad that kindness and empathy are now considered radical by some...
@williampietri
WTF happened to us? Can anyone who marched against the Vietnam/Iraq war imagine we’d be marching against a fascist dictator of the USA in our lifetimes?
@williampietri This is radical?
@danbarber People who try living by it absolutely get accused of being radical, yes.
@williampietri @danbarber one day we will know it as the normal rule.
@falcennial @williampietri @danbarber
@Beldarak
radical = from the roots
Extremists accept violence. Radicals not necessarily.
Don't fear to be radical.
@danbarber @williampietri
Yes, in the original sense: it gets at the root of what's wrong and demands change there.
@williampietri I LOVE THIS!
@williampietri Those damn kindergarteners
@williampietri +9001%
Was radicalized by this old dungarees-wearing #EcoHipster!
@alisynthesis @williampietri
I can't find the image now, but there's an old meme/cartoon based on a Bible illustration of Jesus and some Apostles.
Jesus: "As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
Apostle 1: "But what if they are gay?"
Apostle 2: "What if they worship other Gods?"
Jesus: "DID I FUCKING STUTTER?"
@dec23k @williampietri ha, that's great!
I'm pretty anti-religion, which I consider to be an anti-brainwashing stance, but as religious figures go, it's hard to find fault with very much in the teachings of Jesus. It would be a lot cooler if Christians paid attention to what he said.
@williampietri FYI, your alt text uses vertical bars ("|") instead of the capital letter i ("I").
@scy Oh, thanks! I used the auto-detect text feature and didn't catch that. I'll watch out for it next time.
