A “millionaire-class” mini-car conversion with electrically-operated windows and a chromium-plated gear lever, is announced today by Harold Radford, the London coach-building firm. It is based on the £567 mini-car with the Cooper engine, and will cost £1,088.

If you are interested in cricket, and especially if you are interested in Glamorgan cricket, you might like my new feature. As part of my 1960s social history series I intend to follow the Glamorgan cricket team through the summer of 1969, highlighting their games. More details soon.

Part of my 1960s viewing collection, Blind Corner was released in 1963. A British crime film it starred William Sylvester (Danger Man, Ghost Squad, The Prisoner), Barbara Shelley (the first leading lady of British horror), Elizabeth Shepherd (briefly Emma Peel), and Alexander Davion (Gideon’s Way). The film’s tag line - She loved one man for kicks, one man for luxury, one man for murder.

Previewing the forthcoming series and fashions. “Emma wears a hipster trouser-suit in ice-blue lame, bare to the navel. On sale for 29 guineas. Watch for this outfit in Episode Five, scheduled for the week of October 24th.”

Eight battalions of German tank soldiers will be drafted to Castlemartin, south Wales this summer. Each battalion will have fourteen day’s extensive training on the British tank ranges. At the ranges it is expected that the Germans will reveal their “hush-hush” wonder tank.

Half a million Britons are spending £5 million a year on snuff and more and more women are joining the ranks. “It’s becoming the vogue,” a spokesman for the snuff industry said. “And it’s not unusual now for a woman to take a box of snuff out of her handbag - in public.”

Johnny Winter, Johnny Winter, 1969 on Columbia

Johnny Winter’s self-titled official debut album (The Progressive Blues Experiment came out the year before as a kind of unauthorized debut on Sonobeat, then sold to Imperial). Mix of blues standard covers (“Good Morning Little School Girl,” “I’ll Drown in My Own Tears,” and “Mean Mistreater”) along with Johnny Winter originals.

Winter produced, and is joined by Tommy Shannon on bass and “Uncle” John Turner on percussion – Winter plays all the guitars, vocals, and harmonica. Younger brother Edgar Winter joins on piano on “I’ll Drown in My Own Tears” and alto sax on “Good Morning Little School Girl.”

My copy – via Vinyl Destination in Lowell MA – is a 1969 pressing with the 2-Eye, “360 Sound” label. Though the cover looks rough the vinyl’s in pretty decent shape – played, but well cared for.

Taj Mahal – Taj Mahal (1968, US)

Our next spotlight is on number 305 on The List, submitted by weirdofhermiston. This beauty of an album sure is a portal into multiple rabbit holes! This is the debut "solo" album from the amazing blues musician and vocalist Taj Mahal, featuring two other brilliant musicians you either already know or are going to want to get to know: Ry Cooder (who would go onto become known as one of the greatest guitarists) and Jesse Ed Davis (who would go onto become a sought-after session artist and, a citizen of the Kiowa tribe, would be posthumously inducted into the Native American Music Hall of Fame). If you want to get lost in the blues, give this one a spin and go from there!
