1001 Other Albums<p>Thursday, What A Concept! | Brian Eno – Thursday Afternoon (1985, UK)</p><p>It’s been a while since our last entry in our “Thursday, What A Concept” series, so our next spotlight is on the somewhat conceptual album that is number 872 on The List, submitted by leonardo.</p><p>Thursday Afternoon is the 60-minute ambient track rearranged from the soundtrack to Thursday Afternoon, an 80-minute long video composed of ambient “video paintings” filmed on a Thursday afternoon, produced by Eno and Daniel Lanois. As the spotlight suggests, if you listen to this with your speakers turned onto their right side, you might just gain the skill of not focusing directly on the fact that it is (depending on your time zone) only Thursday afternoon.</p><p>Want to read more? 1001 Other Albums<p><strong>Thursday, What A Concept! | Brian Eno – Thursday Afternoon (1985,&nbsp;UK)</strong></p><p>It’s been a while since our last entry in our “<a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/?s=thursday%2C+what+a+concept%21" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Thursday, What A Concept</a>” series, so our next spotlight is on the somewhat conceptual album that is number 872 on <a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/the-list/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The List</a>, submitted by leonardo.</p><p><strong>The concept</strong>: <em>Thursday Afternoon</em> is the 60-minute ambient track/long-play CD rearranged from the soundtrack to <em><a href="https://www.discogs.com/master/828487-Brian-Eno-Thursday-Afternoon" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Thursday Afternoon</a></em>, an 80-minute long video composed of seven ambient “video paintings” that were filmed on a Thursday afternoon in 1984, produced by Eno and Daniel Lanois. The pieces in <em>Thursday Afternoon</em> the video were not meant to be focused on directly and, in their original media (VHS and Beta), the TV set had to be turned onto its right side to make the vertical format viewable. Similarly, the “holographic” nature of <em>Thursday Afternoon </em>the album does not argue for it being focused on directly either. But, perhaps, if you turn your speakers onto their right side, you may gain the skill of not focusing directly on the fact that it is, presently, only Thursday afternoon.</p><p><em>Thursday Afternoon</em> – what a concept!</p><ul><li><a href="https://song.link/i/714821163" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Songlink: Brian Eno – <em>Thursday Afternoon</em></a></li><li><a href="https://www.discogs.com/master/32621-Brian-Eno-Thursday-Afternoon" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Discogs: Brian Eno – <em>Thursday Afternoon</em></a></li></ul><p><a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://1001otheralbums.com/tag/1980s/" target="_blank">#1980s</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://1001otheralbums.com/tag/abstract-music/" target="_blank">#abstractMusic</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://1001otheralbums.com/tag/ambient/" target="_blank">#ambient</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://1001otheralbums.com/tag/brian-eno/" target="_blank">#BrianEno</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://1001otheralbums.com/tag/daniel-lanois/" target="_blank">#DanielLanois</a></p>
