This is a first. I looked at the solar image on the NASA SOHO site to see if it was interesting. Then I took my own image... and got something different. They're getting their images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory, and if I go there directly I do get a match. So here's something I might not say often: It was NASA's mistake, not mine. Unfortunately, it's not as interesting as I was set to expect.

"On Monday, [AST SpaceMobile] signed a 'coordination agreement' with the US National Science Foundation. The deal calls for AST to 'implement best practices between satellite communications and ground-based optical, infrared, and radio astronomy observations.'

“'Under this agreement, AST SpaceMobile commits to collaborate closely with NSF, its major facilities, and the broader US astronomy community to mitigate any potential impact on ground-based astronomical facilities,' the company added."

This telescope is just a few years younger than me, the pictures it has taken made me dream a lot. Some of the ones featured in the video still make me shivers.

Hello!

I live in Milan, Italy, where I've always worked in astronomy and space outreach and education. I post about these and my other tech interests such as Lisp, retrocomputing, Linux, Assembly, and more.

This is me at Kennedy Space Center on Apr 21, 2022. Behind, at pad 39A, is the Falcon 9 rocket that carried my astronaut friend Samantha Cristoforetti to space days later. More photos of the experience:
