Hello all, I am adding the recommendations from this thread among others to this list

"Autism doesn't 'Go Away' when you 'Grow Up'": Adult Autism Literature

bookwyrm.socialBook List: "Autism doesn't 'Go Away' when you 'Grow Up'": Adult Autism Literature - BookWyrmThis list includes: - both fiction and non-fiction books - characters over the age of 18 - characters explicitly diagnosed or considered to have autistic traits according to the consensus of other neurodivergent readers - authors that are neurodivergent identifying, regardless of diagnosis, and are preferably trans and/or BIPOC. If an author is white, ensure that the author is not writing on behalf of the lived experience of neurodivergent people of color, and rather only their own lived experiences. **This list is already overwhelmingly white.** - preferably do not overly center a romantic/sexual plot or self-help - preferably do have an audiobook - does not sensationalize the "supercrip" narrative of people "succeeding in capitalism-despite their disabilities" Attempts were made to vet books for positive and meaningful representation, but since I have not yet read all the books there may be gaps. For undiagnosed characters, the traits associated with coding a character with autism from the perspective of the reader may resonate more with some than others, since autism is not one singular experience and is influenced by many intersectionalities. As someone who was late-diagnosed with autism, I am looking for more books to read and share as I learn more about this identity from a new perspective. Please let me know if there are concerns with any books I listed here. Considerations were made for books selected as a part of the Autistic Book Club and those shared on Mastodon upon request. 20 books - by pixouls@bookwyrm.social

Hey y'all, I'm looking for recs on books:
- fiction or non fiction
- center adults older than 18 (no YA) with autism (not just as a side note background character), bonus if it is about late-in-life diagnosis but fine if not.
- It is okay if the character isn't explicitly stated as autistic, so long as the consensus from readers who are neurodivergent is that the character is coded as neurodivergent with autism specific traits, and that the author identifies as neurodivergent
- doesn't sensationalize achievements "in spite of disability"
- preferably an author that is trans and/or BIPOC (and not a white person writing about POC, it's fine if they speak about their own lived experience)
- not overly centered on spicy romance (okay if this is a sub plot)
- preferably has an audiobook production

Yes i am looking through existing recs on bookwyrm but some of them don't have a lot of details in the reviews

I feel inspired to write posts today :blobcat: Well i just made the switch from Goodreads to #BookWyrm, and I'm loving the privacy and community vibe! No ads, no data harvesting, just books and readers. Also been using #Trakt for tracking movies and shows—super clean and syncs perfectly with my watchlist. Anyone else on these platforms? What’s your setup for tracking books and media? 📚🎬 #Fediverse #Books #Movies

I'm currently working through reading "Red Mars", the first in an impressive sci-fi trilogy about the first settlements on Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. The 24-hour audiobook has been taking me weeks, it's been quite a mental grind: infuriatingly drawing me in.

After, I'll listen to the supernatural-cyberpunk-detective-noir audio drama "Roy Kaplan" by a fan fiction author my friend likes.

Then, I'll keep on working books again. I already have "The Outsiders" by Ada Hoffman and the last two books of the Murderbot Diaries on my mind. After those, I'll likely try the sequel, "Green Mars", then take a break again with some other works before I listen to the last book of the trilogy if I still like it.
