Today, housing costs are among the biggest challenges. As a result of housing shortages spilling out from the big cities, rural rents have gone up much faster than worker pay.This year there are state bills to prioritize affordable housing for farmworkers, a debate over whether to pass rent control in Delano, as well as emergency tenant protections for counties such as Monterey that have been affected by flooding.
