Sergio Romo's love letter to San Francisco brings to mind the letter that @hunterpence@beta.mstdn.cf wrote for our show back in September of 2021.
“Dear San Francisco:
When I was traded to the Giants, I didn’t know a lot about the city. I thought “NOPA” stood for “No Parking.” While that still might be true, San Francisco quickly became my HOME, and no matter where I go, I will always call it that. Collectively, we made magic in those even years, and I’ll never forget how the orange and black confetti rained down from the skies.
You’ve got soul, you’ve got excitement, but most importantly, you accepted me before I accepted myself.
Only love, your forever Giant, Hunter Pence"

The San Francisco StandardDear San Francisco: Postcards From a Year of Performances Tell the Story of the CityHope, heartbreak, and humor are scribbled on thousands of missives addressed to the city of San Francisco, all collected by a circus show in North Beach.

This Dear San Francisco letter from our audience is perfect:

“Dear San Francisco: My 19-year-old brother had extreme social anxiety, to the point that he couldn’t speak in front of anyone that he didn’t know extremely well. When he came to visit me in SF last month, we played a game of “rejection therapy” and the goal was to ask a stranger for a favor that would immediately be rejected-- as exposure for his fears of social rejection. He decided to gather all his courage and ask a stranger to “pick him up and hold him like a little princess.” To his surprise everyone he asked said yes, and I have the awkward videos to prove it. This overwhelming generosity of SF strangers has changed his life.”

This is the San Francisco we made this show about. It is the city people think is “over” or “failed.”

This is the city that keeps showing up for our show and keeps us going.

Thank you.

We had a handful of reviewers return to the show last night, over 400 performances after their first visit.
Here is the first of those reviews to drop: Theater Dogs’ Chad Jones on his second visit. “Still Charms, Dazzles…”
