Funded by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, the €23 million platform is a key step in tripling Cork’s rail capacity and enabling services every 10 minutes. Alongside the Glounthaune to Midleton twin-track and signalling upgrades (due by 2026), it will expand services on the Cobh, Midleton, and Mallow lines. The platform will begin phased operations with Intercity and Midleton services. The 11km motorway will improve access to the Port of Cork, replace the outdated N28, and enhance safety.
