ilo Niki<p>Haven't posted about this so far, but a few days ago, I decided to try to switch to the Cosmic Desktop alpha.</p><p>I was planning on waiting until the beta to try, but it getting shipped in Fedora made me interested.</p><p>So far I love it and have needed to switch back to KDE a lot less than I expected. Em-squared<p>Can see that <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> 42 <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Cosmic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cosmic</span></a> users also have the fault of no default folders (Documents, Pictures, Videos etc) in the home folder when installed from a live desktop. Daft if that bug is also affecting Atomic users.</p>

It runs great on my pile of 2015 and older Mac &amp; PC laptops, and my 2014 iMac.</p><p>Lately I’ve been toying with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/TuxedoOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TuxedoOS</span></a> (Debian) on my iMac, and I’m surprised at the boost in speed! Tuxedo doesn’t work on all of my old laptops (expected), but once KDE 6 arrives on a Debian distro, I’m definitely trying it out (if <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/COSMIC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>COSMIC</span></a> doesn’t lure me away first).</p>
RockyC<p>Alas, my experiment with <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://linuxrocks.online/@tuxedocomputers" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>tuxedocomputers</span></a></span> Tuxedo OS on Hardcase, my Early 2014 MacBook Air, has run into hardware issues. </p><p>I was able to get the old Broadcom Wi-Fi working with broadcom-wl, but it looks like the Apple keyboard drivers may have been removed from Tuxedo’s kernel, as couldn’t get the function keys working at all with the usual fnmode method.</p><p>So it’s back to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/UltramarineLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UltramarineLinux</span></a> while I wait for <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@system76" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>system76</span></a></span> to finish <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/COSMIC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>COSMIC</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Macbook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Macbook</span></a></p>

Jarno<p>Being an alpha version, I'm reading a lot of problems for some people using <a href="https://mastonederland.nl/tags/Cosmic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cosmic</span></a> DE, but I have to say, for use on my laptop which is mostly used for some browsing and such, it's really sweet! It seems to be nicer on the battery as well. Not too unimportant for a laptop.</p>
Juni<p>I think it would be neat if <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/cosmic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cosmic</span></a> would remember the Power Mode setting. Cause as things are right now, I need to open the settings and set it back to High Performance, on every boot.<br>Currently I think you need to run multiple commands to set it up, so that it defaults to high performance.</p>
