THE TEACHER'S LOUNGE (2023, D. Ilker Çatac) is one long workplace anxiety attack. It starts as a mystery-- someone stealing the coffee money from the teacher's lounge-- and escalates into a study of prejudice, false accusations, and institutional fecklessness. youtube.com/watch?v=7pXmbm71eg

First time I watched 'Flow' was at the cinema, but upon second viewing I can now confirm that the internet was right about the effect that the film has on cats. Can also confirm that it remains a masterclass in visual storytelling, and a beautiful and tender tale about survival and found family that evokes thoughts and emotions without the use of any dialogue.

Such an incredible achievement by a small team, all done with open source software. People keep repeating how impressive it is that it was created in Blender for good reason, because it is legitimately one of the most stunning animated films that have been released in the recent years. 100% worth every bit of praise it has received.

I cannot know for sure how good the upcoming 'Superman' will be, or how it will compare to the legacy of the Donner / Reeve films, but I both respect and appreciate how heavily into Krypto the Superdog the marketing has been leaning.

I also don't think I've ever related more to Superman in my life, because having an overenthusiastic dog, completely oblivious to its own weight, playfully jump and land full force on your back while you're lying face down, is definitely an experience. Admitting to some extreme personal bias, I love how they gave Krypto this happy chaotic goblin energy, he is still the goodest boy.

T̶o̶m̶o̶r̶r̶o̶w̶ T̶o̶d̶a̶y̶ In 30 minutes it's #Comedon day, and we'll be watching Preston Sturges's 1941 satire Sullivan's Travels.

As previously described in the paper handouts you received at orientation (you did attend orientation, right?) last week's film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, took its title from the Sturges movie.

Sturges was the first Hollywood screenwriter to successfully transition to directing and the first person to get the "written and directed by" credit. His screwball comedies are legendary and every single one of them skewers social and class assumptions of their day.

CW: It's from 1941 so odds of some outdated views or language are good.

The watch party starts Thursday April 3 at 6:00 PM PT.
