1001 Other Albums<p><strong>Montage Monday | Bloodywood/Prophets of Rage/Manic Street Preachers/Rage Against The&nbsp;Machine</strong></p><p>Today’s spotlight is the second in a new series called “Montage Monday”, where the spotlight may be brief but is packed with a lot of music. Because, sometimes, you need a montage (montage!).[1]</p><p>And for no particular reason, this Montage Monday we’re going to spotlight albums spanning 30 years that have some anger issues – or, rather, address issues with very well-justified anger -, working backward in case doing so can turn back time. Each title is directly linked to its Bandcamp/Songlink in case you want to just jump straight in and forego the montage completely, though the montage this time around is really just suggestions of some key tunes. Titrate additional tunes/anger in as needed. Ready?</p><p><strong><a href="https://bloodywood.bandcamp.com/album/rakshak" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bloodywood – <em>Rakshak</em></a> (2022, India)</strong>[2] / <a href="https://prophetsofrage.bandcamp.com/album/prophets-of-rage" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Prophets of Rage – <em>s/t</em></strong></a><strong> (2017, US)</strong>[3] / <strong><a href="https://album.link/ca/i/942562485" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Manic Street Preachers – <em>The Holy Bible</em></a> (1994, Wales)</strong>[4] / <strong><a href="https://www.discogs.com/master/7939-Rage-Against-The-Machine-Rage-Against-The-Machine" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Rage Against The Machine – <em>s/t</em></a> (1992, US)</strong>[5]</p><p>Bloodywood – “Dana Dan” (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a65A626Ed20" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Youtube video</a>; <a href="https://song.link/ca/i/1636709839" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Songlink</a>): You might think you don’t like nu-metal, until you hear this song/album/band. This band is bloody amazing, and the video for this song always gets me jacked up (CW: mention of sexual assault and violence). (Watch for their third LP, <em><a href="https://bloodywood.bandcamp.com/album/nu-delhi" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nu Delhi</a></em>, coming out later this month – <a href="https://bloodywood.bandcamp.com/track/bekhauf-feat-babymetal-2" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">one track</a> features BABYMETAL!)</p><blockquote><p>I put a fist through the face of a rapist, and yeah, I tape this<br>For the viewing pleasure of the nameless faces he disgraces<br>And yeah, one day I may change his kind with my mind, but<br>I won’t bow to the beast, never make peace</p></blockquote><p>Prophets of Rage – “Unfuck the World” (<a href="https://prophetsofrage.bandcamp.com/track/unfuck-the-world" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bandcamp</a>): See also the entire rest of this album, the only LP from an explosive supergroup of members from Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill formed in the wake of the 2016 US election. Defiance!<p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/OTD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OTD</span></a> November 2, 1999</p><p>Rage Against The Machine released their third album, “The Battle of Los Angeles”</p><p>I was kinda surprised that this album was so good. On par with their debut, though I’m one of those oddballs that still prefers Evil Empire. Whatever. Close enough. </p><p>That they were going this strong after a decade is truly impressive. </p><p>Favorite track is “Calm Like A Bomb” </p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/RapMetal" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RapMetal</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/HardRock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HardRock</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FunkMetal" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FunkMetal</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/HardcoreMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HardcoreMusic</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>90s</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWmog0Ue4Wo" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=sWmog0Ue4W</span><span class="invisible">o</span></a></p>
Defiance!<p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/OTD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OTD</span></a> Sept 24, 1991</p><p>Red Hot Chilli Peppers released their fifth LP, “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”</p><p>This is their peak, imho. Which frankly isn’t saying much. It’s more funk and rock, less metal. I really enjoy a few tracks from each RHCP album, but an album’s worth has just never materialized for me. </p><p>However one feels about this album, my god does it represent 90’s alt rock perfectly. That’s both a compliment and a criticism. They got super popular which in part led to the departure of their guitarist (good for him, he was clearly stressed and self-medicating in the worst possible way). <br /> <br /><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/AlternativeRock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AlternativeRock</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FunkRock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FunkRock</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FunkMetal" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FunkMetal</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/RapRock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RapRock</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>music</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRQwn8rmZfo" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=RRQwn8rmZf</span><span class="invisible">o</span></a></p>
Defiance!<p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/OTD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OTD</span></a> August 28, 1990<br />Living Colour release their second LP, “Time&#39;s Up”</p><p>As a fan of guitar-centric music, it was inevitable that I’d love this mix of hard rock and funk with a punk attitude. Yeah, the Chili Peppers had a similar vibe, but Living Colour is on a whole other level. </p><p>The band had success with their prior album, released in 1988 and featuring the hit “Cult of Personality”. But I prefer Time’s Up. It’s got a better sound quality, more guitar virtuosity, and some of my favorite LC songs, including the title track, which is about the environment and how we’re running out of time to save it. In 1990! It also includes guest vocals from Queen Latifah, Doug E Fresh, and Little Richard!! 🎸 <br /> <br /><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/HardRock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HardRock</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Metal" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Metal</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FunkMetal" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FunkMetal</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>90s</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8B5HQnweBo" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=r8B5HQnweB</span><span class="invisible">o</span></a></p>
