Flipboard Culture Desk<p>The Go-Go Museum in Washington, D.C., opened last month. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://flipboard.com/@thrillist" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>thrillist</span></a></span> took a look around the 8,000-square-foot place, which pays homage to artists like Chuck Brown, the "Godfather of Go-Go," shows the connection between the genre and tracks like Nelly's "Hot In Herre," and explores go-go's influence on fashion. “Having a museum that focuses on go-go and D.C. culture is important for the youth, specifically,” says HuffPost deputy editor and Washington Association of Black Journalists president Philip Lewis. “[It] dispels the myth that the only thing worth discussing in D.C. is what’s happening on Capitol Hill."</p><p><a href="https://flip.it/BQNFYv" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">flip.it/BQNFYv</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Culture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Culture</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Lifestyle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lifestyle</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/GoGoMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GoGoMusic</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/WashingtonDC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WashingtonDC</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Travel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Travel</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/BlackMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackMastodon</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/blackmastodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>blackmastodon</span></a></span></p>
Defiance!<p>Johnny Dorelli - “Con Lui, Con Me” (1967)</p><p>This is a super cool, very retro sounding song by Italian singer and TV personality Johnny Dorelli. It’s a cover of a 60’s-sexist anthem by Andy Williams called “Music to Watch Girls By”. </p><p>But this version is just wonderfully kitsch. Dorelli is so emotive, and the music improves on the original imho. Kinda corny, but still really fun and upbeat. </p><p>I got this from a compilation CD released in 2004 called “Stasera Shake”, a wonderfully done collection of go-go and mod dance-floor numbers from the Italian scene of the 1960’s. </p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Italy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Italy</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/60s" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>60s</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/GoGoMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GoGoMusic</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/RetroMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RetroMusic</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/compilation" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>compilation</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>music</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG0VTC9BWqE" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=BG0VTC9BWq</span><span class="invisible">E</span></a></p>
