Buried in this article is the plan to eliminate the #IRS #DirectFile program which has saved #taxpayers millions of dollars and made filing quick & convenient. Losing the program at this point would be a travesty. #US taxpayers need to be liberated from the predations of incompetent tax prep companies. Tax prep charges too much and makes too many mistakes.

I haven't done my taxes yet. Wonder how long it will take for them to be accepted once I do.
- IRS fired a bunch of people in February. Oops, some genius realized, Tax Day is April 15th.
- IRS called back a bunch of fired people to return by April 14th.
- IRS also sent out new layoff notices yesterday (4/4/25) where they'll probablyend up laying off 20,000.
- Don't expect a timely refund (or audit, for that matter).
- Assuming DOGE doesn't break everything during their upcoming hack-a-thon. They also seem to be giving Peter Thiel's Palantir a no-bid contract for their 'mega API' into IRS data

While billionaires are bribing corrupt politicians to make sure they won't pay any taxes here I am, with my 10 euros of royalties from a book I wrote almost 20 years ago in France, worrying that I've already filed my tax return and should contact a tax advisor to revise it.
Because unlike Musk, Bezos, Trump, Murdoch, Buffet and their clique of filthy rich white men people like me can't afford to take the risk of ignoring the law.
The #IRS is reinstating 7,000 workers to full-time duty by April 14. After initially firing the probationary employees in February, the agency reinstated them after two federal judges ruled in March that their terminations were unlawful.

Welp, the dealership where I bought my car last year apparently screwed up the EV tax credit paperwork and the IRS is rejecting my tax return. So many dealerships fucked it up that the IRS has now made a new rule to try to fix it.
If you're trying to get a used EV tax credit in the US this year, beware. If you wait until the last day to file you may get a nasty surprise.
