#MontyPython “Well, I didn’t #vote for you.” – Peasant Woman to King Arthur. But... Every Day we read this - 'This is the crisis moment': Political scientist says Trump crossed a crucial red line (April 14) - No he crossed it on Jan 20 and every day thereafter #media #journalism #corruption #power #blackmail #access #democracy #government #maga #politics #freedom #censorship #deportation #immigration #education #climate #healthcare #measles #economy #finance #insidertrading #wallstreet #markets

I think its time #Ofcom started regulating local #news sites so they do not randomly insert articles from other areas and keep the error to get "engagement" (maybe fine them the ad revenue from the misplaced article?) - no one has been shot dead in #Ipswich, this happened up North and all this does is increase #fear of #crime

(I'm not suggesting reducing genuine local crime reporting, this is a vital part of #journalism - and all the other articles are from the expected areas)

We love independent and worker-owned media. Last week, the team at @aftermath.site invited their friends at @404mediaco, Defector and Hell Gate to discuss indie journalism in an episode of their podcast. They chatted about starting publications, how you measure success when you're not traffic-obsessed, who does the business stuff, and how indies can work together.

Read some of the highlights here, listen wherever you get your podcasts, and subscribe to their sites, which specialize in video games, technology, sports and New York, but — in the best possible ways — don't always stay in their lanes.

Journalists often need to speak to experts for their stories. Money traditionally doesn't change hands — the expert, whether they're a political scientist or a dermatologist, builds their media profile, while the journo gets the quotes they need. But according to the Press Gazette, there are now some agencies that charge brand PRs to make those connections, and the "experts" they are quoting may be AI, rather than real people. "Laura Purkess, consumer features editor and consumer champion for The Sun, says she receives what appears to be AI-written copy in large batches from one particular PR following Responsesource requests. The PR has no surname or agency name and frequently posts three or more ready-written comments on virtually any subject within less than an hour of the request being posted."
