JaakkoIt always surprises me how much open water you can find, even in the middle of -30°C temperatures. Somehow, these small streams stay open for long periods, even in extreme cold. JaakkoWe are building a snow ridge over a small stream that we weren’t comfortable crossing. Sometimes these rivers and streams might look like they have thick ice or a thick pad of snow that can support your weight. However, often there is open water under the snow, and if there isn’t enough snow or ice, you risk plunging through and getting wet or stuck in the hole, which is, of course, not desirable in the winter. JDSYesterday’s lap swim cove. Wind died and swell was almost non existent. JDSWhile I haven’t been able to run much this last couple weeks, at least this week has allowed me to get an hour or so of open water swimming each day. The unpopulated beaches I frequent in this area are all coves allowing for “lap” like swimming between the rocks defining the cove. I enjoy swimming laps, but when swimming pools all closed early in the pandemic, I had to learn to like swimming in the cold ocean, and now I absolutely love it.
