Why did I decide to ditch traditional PIR movement detection and move to 60 GHz radar-based presence detection? Because battery-powered PIR are pain in the ass. I tried various zWave and Zigbee devices over a time-span of 10 yrs. They all suck - earlier or later.

Low battery state is something I thought about already and ruled out as the root cause: All respective sensors received fresh batteries and the problem still occurred. Changing the affected sensors with non-affected (from other places in the house) seems like an idea, but honestly: What is the probability that four sensors (bought at different times, i.e. most likely not the same batch) start at the very same time to cause trouble because of a sensor intrinsic reason? 😉 Anyh...
Hmmm … Wie kann denn der #LQI bei einer stationären, permanent am Stromnetz hängenden Hue Lampe so dermaßen variieren? Auch der #Zigbee Coordinator hat seinen Platz nicht geändert und es gab auch keine baulichen Maßnahmen o.ä.

In the range of more affordable, Hue has also gotten slightly better but still has a ways to go. They have a single-press button for $30 now that is probably the cheapest option for a simple control I’ve seen (apart from IKEA). And a multi-button control is now $50.
I remember when Hue’s controls were all over $60, and it was so hard to justify it. Still not easy, but they’re making progress.
I am sad to see Hue ended their battery-free tap switch though. That was the coolest innovation, the act of pressing in the button generated enough power to send the signal and that was it. It didn’t need to be plugged in or recharged, it was so elegant. I’ve still got a few left in working order (they do eventually degrade) and love them.
