raminf<p>The <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/rabbitr1" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rabbitr1</span></a> revenue model just doesn&#39;t add up.</p><p>$199 price and reported $15/mo per-user charge for cloud <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AI</span></a> costs ( <a href="https://www.fastcompany.com/91013196/how-design-drove-10m-in-pre-orders-for-rabbit-r1-ai-hardware" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">fastcompany.com/91013196/how-d</span><span class="invisible">esign-drove-10m-in-pre-orders-for-rabbit-r1-ai-hardware</span></a>). </p><p>This means if the hardware BOM cost is, say, $20, they&#39;ll start losing money after 1 year of use ($199-$20-(12x$15). This doesn&#39;t even cover the cost of salaries, ops, marketing, etc.</p><p>Unless they come up with a recurring revenue plan, or this is a loss-leader, they&#39;ll need to raise a lot more money just to keep the lights on.</p><p>Granted, the <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/CES" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CES</span></a> preorder numbers are big, but they haven&#39;t gone into mass-production yet. Pebble watch also broke Kickstarter pre-order records (in the same range) but hit a hard wall. </p><p>I hope it works out for them but we&#39;ve seen this story play out before.</p>
