I can tell you that once you file for an office, you get bombarded with questionnaires to fill out, as sent to your campaign email address on file. Some of those groups post the answers. So if you want to dig, look for those posts. And pay attention to if candidates bothered to respond to surveys - it shows what they think of voters. The Sierra & Green Party surveys each took me a few hours to do!

1) Greens. So this is going to be weird, but our local Alameda County Green Party does post all their survey results. If Empower Oakland are the fascists, as someone above claimed, then surely these would be the opposite? (I'm endorsed by both. *shrug*) acgreens.wordpress.com/voter-g

(I did the dubious thing of joining NextDoor, and I liked this comment I just made, so am reposting it here. If I get around to it, I'll put it on my website.)

Sigh. You deserve so much better. I'd endorse the only guy that wasn't wearing a suit at the SL Dem forum, just because he didn't seem like a snake. But I wish he was more clued in on housing.

Sadly, I'm guessing he's not "viable".

Q: how the devil do I figure out who to vote for?

I would bias towards the / East Bay for Everyone endorsements because our economy is literally imperiled by not having housing that people can afford! Then go for endorsements that tell you why they picked someone. Those are good because you can figure out if you agree with their thinking.

Q: How do non-club endorsements work?

Immediately after I created my campaign email, a survey from the Green party landed in it. It was long and *very* targeted to EBMUD. I spent an entire evening filling it out. Then I got one from the Sierra Club. Then Empower Oakland. Very few of the questions overlapped. Maybe this is why my opponent didn't bother filling most of them out (per Grn & EO).

Q: how do local Dem clubs make their endorsements? Here's how:

1) they invite candidates to a forum. In my case, EBMUD is low profile, so I usually got a 1 min intro and then a few questions, maybe a 1 min closer. Higher profile races get more time.

2) They take an online poll-vote of their members, and that's their endorsement. Then they might use club dues to put out a mailer.

1/2+

I should make an endorsement on the race. They all seem like pretty good choices though, so it's hard.

Ward 4. Luana España is a better public speaker, seems nice, and I should see if she's getting all her money from anybody interesting. Main competitor imo is Susan Gonzales. (Who doesn't seem to be fundraising)

They both seem to be domain experts. Luana talks more about equity.

(Basing this on the dem forum, which might be on video somewhere.)

Canvassing the farmer's market, I had one person ask if I was on Mastodon. Why yes, I am!

Interesting experience: I talked to some Republicans, practiced my Spanish, and found some folks who were into clean water.

I almost never sign up for any group activities, but I did sign up for this ride tomorrow from Bay Fair BART to the part of the Bay Trail, organized by @BikeEastBay. 12 flat miles, with a focus on bike/walk access to the waterfront. If any cyclists want to join, we'll meet at 12:30 and ride at 1. I'll be on a white bike with bullhorn handlebars and wearing a black helmet, if you want to say hi or punch me in the face or whatever else.
