I hate when #people say “#capitalism breeds #innovation” like Honestly, can you think of anything that capitalism has created in the last five years? Any #inventions? Anything at all? Because, to be frank,  the only thing I can possibly think of is #Ai. but that wasn’t created in the last five years, rather it just became a mainstream (and really shitty) #tool. All it’s doing Is putting people out of their #jobs with its pathetic rendering of their craft.

Of course, this new credentials checker in #swad needs a #tool to edit these #password files, that's currently work in progress.

I just implemented the class for reading a password, pretty simple thing from a pipe, but an "interesting" job from a #terminal. Turns out doing that portably, reliably and secure needs quite some code. 🙈

There's #getpass, but that's deprecated for good reasons (global state and not perfectly clear how it deals with #signals that could interrupt the input). And there's the sane replacement #readpassphrase in *some* systems (e.g. #FreeBSD), but that's not portable. 🙃

So, plain old #tcsetattr it is, with some signal handling on top:

Question for #bicycle folks: lookibg for the bane of a #tool. It looks like a wrench but has a metal nub at one side (by the opening of the wrench "hand"). It is used like a wrench but for round nuts that have a hole to insert the nub in to excert torque.

Any ideas? Havent got a photo but have seen one before and got one of the bastart "round nuts" I need to adjust for my steering column to stop shaking while riding.

Welcome to Sepkoski's Online Genus Database!
strata.geology.wisc.edu/jack/

"The purpose of this database is to allow users to easily search and summarize Sepkoski's global genus compendium on the basis of Evolutionary Fauna, Phylum, or Class. You can recover customized lists of genera and their stratigraphic ranges (according to Sepkoski) as well as summaries of genus richness and taxonomic rates of evolution. As time permits, I will be adding additional features to this database, including the ability to search for a genus name and to obtain lists of taxa by stratigraphic interval."

Ways an "AI" LLM is trying to kill you today, part 37:

An article on maintaining and repairing your hydraulic jack (trolley jack, bottle jack) recommended using a good water-based fluid to refill your jack.

Great job, everybody!
