Bicycling Monterey 💚🌎🌍🌏<p>We’ve never ordered anything from <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Amazon" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Amazon</span></a> (no shade to those who have no other option). We prefer to <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/BuyLocal" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BuyLocal</span></a>, and we lament the closure of many local stores (e.g., we remember when there were 4 locally owned office supply stores nearby—now 0). Most of us are compelled to shop big box stores now. </p><p>A local <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Target" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Target</span></a> store was opened for years before we succumbed to occasional Target purchases. And of course everyone’s situation will be different.</p><p>It makes sense to suggest a trike, tho trikes can be less stable. For balance, some people may find <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/TernNBD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TernNBD</span></a> more appropriate. Your dad’s situation of course is multi-faceted, not just a balance issue. Anyone for whom an NBD might possibly be appropriate could check with physical therapist or other professionals who assess their health and current needs and abilities. And of course, keeping a seat low, for balance confidence, can be hard on knees! </p><p>We couldn’t begin to recommend what’s right for <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@esnyder" class="u-url mention">@<span>esnyder</span></a></span>’s dad. Also, don’t know if “age hitting” your dad “all at once” over last 2 yrs is maybe covid related. We know fit, healthy 20-40 yr olds & others who had “sudden aging" experience post-covid—some recovered (e.g., 1 MTBer, after 3.5 yrs, could bike again); others haven't. </p><p>Best wishes to all. Grateful to have a much needed, long awaited new ride this week—made possible due to my kids’ loving support of my 15+ yrs of bike advocacy volunteering, bless em! </p><p>I biked through 9th month of pregnancy on a very ordinary bike, without any problem. But can see why Arleigh / Bike Shop Girl found this bike, <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/TernNBD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TernNBD</span></a>, critical for her pregnancy and postpartum time—and why it's helpful for many other folks dealing with various temporary or permanent mobility challenges, injuries, etc. <a href="https://bikeshopgirl.com/my-pregnancy-e-bike-a-tern-nbd-p8i-review/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">bikeshopgirl.com/my-pregnancy-</span><span class="invisible">e-bike-a-tern-nbd-p8i-review/</span></a> We do agree with Arleigh that—were cost not an issue (the NBD S5i is costlier than this NBD P8i)—the S5i would be better choice for people like her ("I have hills that are 7+% right out of my driveway”) and us (steep hills are part of any ride we do from home—which has been nearly all our rides for years, and will be even more the case now, with a 52 lb bike). Still, are we happy with this new ride? Absolutely YES! 🙌🏼💚</p>
