Discounter Still Life II, 2017
based on the painting „Pronkstillleven with fruit and fowl“ by Abraham Hendricksz. van Beyeren (1651)
The work „Discounter Still Life II“ refers to the painting „Pronkstillleven with fruit and fowl“ (1651) by Abraham Hendricksz. van Beyeren (born 1620 or 1621 in Den Haag; died 1690 in Overschie), one of the most famous Dutch still life painters of his time. The arrangement of the original was reinterpreted in a contemporary approach using food that represents the consumption patterns of today: plastic wrapped discounter goods from overseas bought in cheap supermarkets.
