@LukeBornheimer
Does anyone have SFFD review of street designs which specify sections of Fire Code in denying safer streets.
Oakland Fire Department has reviews which mention sections of fire code which are not adopted by state or city.
I wonder whether other cities are confused by fire code
Reminder: The San Francisco Fire Department is the largest and most influential institutional opponent to protected bike lanes and intersections (and other infrastructure that would make streets safer for people).
The best thing SFFD could do for #BikeSafety is stop obstructing.
Now available: League of American #Bicyclists / #BikeLeague recording of 1/16/24 webinar “How to Host an LCI Seminar.” (LCI = League Cycling Instructor)
Access the recording, and get additional details, at: https://bikeleague.org/ridesmart/become-instructor/how-to-host-a-seminar/
Throughout the #USA, communities would benefit (as would the planet!) by having more people confident that they have the necessary road riding skills to help keep them safer while biking. Having more LCIs everywhere, to teach #SmartCycling skills, can help!
In #MontereyCounty there are very few LCIs, e.g., https://bikemonterey.org/league-cycling-instructors-in-monterey-county.html
Education not citation (whenever appropriate).
Help that happen. Share "Group Social Bike Rides — Instrux for Participants" with youth and adults doing ride-outs / #BikeParties / #BikeRuns / #CriticalMass rides in your community. https://bikemonterey.org/rideout-or-rude-out-make-your-bike-party-safe-legal-and-fun.html
@ohrite since speed limits are so widely ignored, & SFPD refuses to enforce traffic safety (heck, the number of SFPD vehicles I see ignoring the vehicle code re speeds, stops, right on red)
So let's use some of the money going to SFPD for faster, better traffic engineering fixes.
I can't help but believe traffic engineers know how to design speed bumps that you can drive over at 20 mph, and get a real shock at 30.
Perfect streets approaching/leaving on/off ramps
And then no turn on red arrows for the pedestrian walk phases, with camera enforcement.
And not just at 4th & King.
I'd love to connect with #VisionZero folks here! I'm a VZ Epi!
