I found out today that Experian flaunts the CCPA right to deletion on huge amounts of personal information through a massive loophole in the law.
I requested the full data they have collected about me a few weeks ago and after getting the report I found that "Experian Marketing Services" includes a huge amount of data (much of which is wholly inaccurate fwiw) about my personal habits and interests, including location data. The primary stated purpose of this is to sell and offer this personal data to other companies for “personalized and targeted offers”.
This data is also described as being separate from the consumer reporting file, which means it is not covered by privacy restrictions/exemptions for credit data.
Normally this is exactly the kind of data that CCPA is designed to ensure I could request to be deleted. But Experian gallantly makes claims that it is also used for vague “internal purposes” which is one of the exemptions in CCPA and then reject my request.
The preliminary rulemaking comments on cybersecurity audits, risk assessments, and automated decisionmaking are now available on the #CPPA
We greatly appreciate the public’s participation and input during the public comment period.

The #California Office of Administrative Law has approved the new #CCPA Regulations. The approved regulations update existing CCPA regulations to harmonize them with amendments adopted pursuant to #Proposition24, the California #Privacy Rights Act #CPRA; operationalize new rights and concepts introduced by the CPRA to provide clarity and specificity to implement the law; and reorganize and consolidate requirements set forth in the law to make the regulations easier to follow and understand.
On Feb. 28 Governor Newsom, AG Bonta, and the #ccpa sent a join letter to Congress opposing the preemption language in HR 8152 #ADPPA
There is no doubt that strong federal #privacy legislation is needed, but it should not result in weaker protections for #California.
Disappointed and at the same time not surprised that #twitter has apparently undeleted a bunch of tweets that I wiped many weeks ago. If you deleted stuff as part of #twittermigration, I would recommend checking again. You basically can't trust them. Complaint filed. If anyone has tips for filing #CCPA requests in California, let me know.
@andy @atomicpoet It really is. One of my favorite @mmasnick Techdirt posts literally says that: https://www.techdirt.com/2019/11/20/masnicks-impossibility-theorem-content-moderation-scale-is-impossible-to-do-well/
Running large public instances will also open up admins to compliance headaches like #DMCA takedown requests, subpoenas/warrants, demands to delete data under #GDPR or #CCPA, obligations to report #CSAM, etc. Combined with the moderation challenges, for anyone who's not a masochist, running a small private instance seems like the way to go.
