So this morning in the bright sunshine, people are looking over the tentative agreement with a more critical eye. I'm ignoring the screeching pseudo-lefty "burn it all down" messages, and trying to pay attention to contract and labor experts. It's definitely a compromise and the CSU got some big wins on salary—CFA got some big wins for lecturers' pay scales and parental leave. It is far from perfect and some of the bigger issues are left untouched (e.g., counselor workload and faculty workload (FT faculty are required to research but are not paid for it, supported in it, nor given time to do it, so it's basically massive unpaid labor in the CSU—when the CSU was designed, the assumption was that faculty would be non-researching, but that has not been the case in the system since the 80s)). So the coming weeks will reveal much about the details—and then we will have a vote on whatever contract comes out. #CFA #FuckNeoliberalEducation #Strike #CSU
