This artist is one of my favorite SciFi artists, and I don't think the absurdity of this vessel could have been lost on him. I read this as satirical cultural commentary.

There is no silver lining in yesterday's election outcome.

But there is one psychological observation. The addiction theory of "Rock Bottom". Half of this country are effectively addicts. This election may be the last catastrophic addict's binge before they reach rock bottom that finally inspires effective behavior change.
