Amsterdam_XXXThe statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Churchill-laan was created by sculptor Karel Gomes and placed in 1️⃣9️⃣9️⃣0️⃣. Its location is symbolic, as Churchill and Gandhi were political opponents. Churchill once called Gandhi a ‘half-naked fakir’ but later sent his condolences after Gandhi crossed over to the other side. 👼 The statue shows a humble Gandhi,walking in a dhoti and sandals, holding a staff and a book.
