If you're ever near Mt. Shasta/Weed, CA, be sure to check out the Black Butte Center for Rail Culture. It's really cool, especially for those of us who used to ride freight trains.

I was last there in 2017. One of the not-to-miss sights is the 1926 water tower across the tracks. Dating from the steam train era, there are old hobo tags from the 1930s carved into the wooden base. It's nice to sit there and imagine...

Saturday walk along the Sacramento River with the local bird club - views to the north to Mount Shasta and to the east to Lassen Peak/Brokeoff Mountain. Windy day but still ticked over 50 species.
