I get dozens of #power #energy #electricity #comparison #calls form #indian call centres in Sydney and Melbourne - they won't give up - they want to make me change my power company no matter what so they get a commission - evil #telemarketers #australia - Indians won't comply with Australian laws not to ring so much - they will ring to make money, that is all they care about - brutal marketing technique - this is all because of war in Ukraine pumping up power prices for about last 2 years and government doing nothing but giving subsidies but not curtailing prices - power companies are raking in the profits from government subsidies and high prices

People Power United: America's Voice for Progress & Actions · 📢🎙️ Power to the People: How We Stand Up to a Bully Narcissist Like Donald Trump and Protect Our Communities By Laurie Woodward Garcia

I'm a ridiculous and extremely garrulous blabbermouth who has only just learned the power of silence in response to jackanapes and asshats. And, goddammit, who knew this was such a power move? Who knew that I could just sit back, say nothing, and watch their minds explode with rage and not give them what they wanted because I refused to invite their selfish toxicity in my life? Goddammit, folks, learn how to do this at an early age. It's a FLEX! Haha!

Radical Anthropology goes to the pub!

🌕Tuesday May 13🌖 from 18:00 London time
LIVE talk and discussion on
'Where have all the menstrual huts gone?'
with the Menstrual Hut Coalition, upstairs at The Two Chairmen pub, Dartmouth St, SW1H 9BP
If you can’t get there, you can join on ZOOM ID 384 186 2174 passcode Wawilak from 6 pm

Where have all the menstrual huts gone? was the question posed by US archaeologist Patricia Galloway in the late 90s. She wondered why there was so much ethnographic evidence for historic and current menstrual observances among SE Native American groups (eg Chickasaw, Creek, Choctaw), and yet archaeology scarcely identified ‘menstrual seclusion’ sites. Menstrual taboos, she realised, often associated with matriliny and matrilocality rather than patriarchal societies. She said: ‘Because Western societies practice the hiding of menstruation…the topic itself is treated with reticence by females, discomfited derision by males, and with pollution anxieties ...by both’.

Members of the Menstrual Hut Coalition will be leading open discussion about the past, present and future of menstrual huts, drawing on recent experience in London to reclaim women’s time/space at Dark Moon. We can learn from Indigenous cosmologies of how these space/times can move whole communities between worlds and usher ‘World Renewal’. People of all genders welcome, as we are thinking about gender interactive celebrations.

'The Politics of Eros: how BaYaka women make their egalitarian world'

Morna Finnegan asks how women's 'bodies in motion' create and maintain egalitarian gender relations among the BaYaka hunter-gatherers of the Congo forest.
Morna is a leading scholar of gender and sexual egalitarianism among African hunter-gatherers. She focuses on ritual and political domains structured through BaYaka women's dance collectives. Her articles include 'The Politics of Eros' (2013) and 'Dance, play, laugh: What capitalism can't do' (2015), and she is co-editor of 'Human Origins, contributions from social anthropology' (Berghahn 2017)
This is ZOOM only, ID 384 186 2174 passcode Wawilak.

The Guardian offers a collage of photos from the anti-Trump rallies that took place worldwide today.

Our rally was cancelled due to the dangerous weather anticipated in central Arkansas. Winds of nearly 80mph came through, toppling trees, and there's flash flooding all over the area. We've been without power much of the day, along with many thousands of others, and had limbs fall from a large maple in front of our house.

"Sure, the markets aren’t buying Trump’s claims, and economists think what’s happening is insanity, but there seems to be something more insidious at play here. ...

But what if it isn’t just a plan (no matter how bonkers) to make America richer? What if it is actually about amassing more power? Just as universities and law firms have recently done, this could be about Trump forcing private industry, key institutions, and foreign governments to bend the knee."
