The compost pile that we built last week is doing great. It’s a combination of shredded vine trimmings, grape must, and stuff cleaned out of the chicken coop. We will see if it gets hot enough to sterilize all the grape seeds from the must. Otherwise we are always weeding out little grape sprouts from the veggie beds.

Nice, didn’t know such a device exists. Our compost is just leaves and branches… we figured we let the little animals do the work; you consider shredding a better idea?

@DeTuin I was told a few years back by a friend that went to an extension course that included composting, that you should never put anything bigger than 3 inches in your pile. Everything rots eventually, I think it’s just the speed at which it happens.

@CavedaleRhones @DeTuin thanks for the info! We have a slowly rotting “wood wall” at the bottom of the garden, whole branches go in there. It’s slow but woodland critters like it. We’ll start a proper composting station somewhere else.
