@pete asks about coordinating rides:

Q3. How do you communicate with your riding buddies/groups/orgs? I’m happy in my little Mastodon world, and have no interest in engaging in anything Meta, Musk, or platforms setting up to go that way (i.e BlueSky). I know I miss out on cycling goings on as a result of this and do struggle with that at times: principles over pragmatism?

@pete A3. For our kids rides, I just use Google Groups. Not perfect and still involves being subject to whims of a giant company - but at least it's mostly emails.

I haven't done much recreational riding in recent years. The few rides I have done have been organized via text message. One person was organizing via Strava, I get emailed about the rides but the timing usually doesn't work out for me.

I had found out about a few things via Instagram (and previously Twitter) but I'm now trying to reduce my consumption of Meta products.

@ascentale @pete A3: I haven't actually gone on any group rides but have been following some groups but mostly on Meta (IG or FB groups they have). One group also posts on their own website/blog but the event details are often posted to FB so no help here...
