It’s pronounced “Goof,” and residents of the street are affectionately called “Goofies” by the City’s old-timers.
And we called #EmperorNorton’s Imperial money “Noonies.” You sometimes still hear people say things like, “I needed to give that Goofy a Noony. So I decided to take the trolley to Morganville, which is what they called the Mission in those days. Now, to take the Municipal Railway cost a nickel…” and so on.
