The schadenfreude's nice and all, but how are we going to stop these fuckers?!
'Everything comes at a cost': 5 Trump voters are feeling the pain

We keep resisting, enjoy the schadenfreude until they repent, and then I'm afraid we 're going to have to work with them if we want our democracy back. That doesn't mean coddling them or being their best friends. But once people turn on Trump we need to allow them to join the cause, not attack them.
We haven't got there yet. It's going to take staggering amounts of suffering for people this foolish to see the light.
It's gonna be a rough ride for us all. But we persist.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree
If MAGA are okay watching harm happen to other people and don't say anything, then suddenly they are harmed and speak out, they haven't really learned anything. They are just acting on their own short term interest, and will abandon the cause as soon as they can.
I think it's time for a real leftist movement to begin, and ex-MAGA are not the people that are needed for that.
I'd rather end gerrymandering, and allow the average person to have a say instead.
@jonquass @DemocracyMattersALot
Then let the real leftist movement begin. We need ALL allies, leftist or ex-MAGA.
We're not ending gerrymandering, we're not even going to have anything but complete sham elections unless there is an actual general strike, or some other kind of uprising that I pray will be nonviolent. For that it's a numbers game. Every single hand on deck.
@MaryAustinBooks @DemocracyMattersALot
If I can paraphrase....
"""
Let the revolution begin!
We can't change anything root issues!
"""
Okay there, we're not going to get along it seems
Edit: I realized you implied that ex-MAGA would join a leftist movement and overturn gerrymandering.
Couldn't we recruit independents instead?
I don't see how working with these people could bring about any good long term
@jonquass @MaryAustinBooks @DemocracyMattersALot
what we want are nonvoters, that's the biggest culprit
and there's no reason to gatekeep who they are or their background. if they are going to vote against MAGA, that's all that matters. certainly some of them will suck, their reasons, their rationale. but if they show up in the voting booth, whatever the motivation, bless 'em. examine any voter and you'll find terrible cringe motivations. just as long as they fucking vote
@benroyce @jonquass @MaryAustinBooks @DemocracyMattersALot Here’s an opportunity to reach likely nonvoters: https://votefwd.org/posts/wisconsin-2025
I think it’s worth trying to reach out to these people by any means, for every election.
