In case it's not obvious:
- I'm horrified by the firebombing of Governor Shapiro's residence.
- I'm horrified by all the folks being sent to prison in El Salvador.
- I'm horrified by what RFKJr is doing to our health system.
- And there's so much more I'm horrified about.
But unless I have something to add to the discussion, I'm not posting. I don't see how that would help anything.
What I might post: articles with an illuminating perspective that's not being commonly shared.
@jeridansky I get this approach.
As someone who got caught up on the news and still only posted about the excitement of being able to feed both of my cats the same food? I get it.
@cafechatnoir And I love reading your posts for cat updates, work life updates, glass crafting updates, etc.
@jeridansky @cafechatnoir Yes! Please continue to update us on the cats, it brings life
@jeridansky I don't post much (maybe anything) about items one through four, but I do hope people are paying attention (in some sustainable way, maybe a weekly podcast or news magazine, maybe a focused source on a small number of topics, maybe something else). It isn't easy to find the middle ground between doom scrolling and complete disengagement, but I'm suggesting looking for it somehow.
@soaproot Yeah, it's a tough one. I'm reading somewhat more news than I had intended to (and I've found sources that work well for me) but things are so perilous right now, on so many fronts. I expected things to be bad, but not this bad so quickly.
And then for balance/relief I go to my Mastodon lists where people are posting pet photos, bird photos, flower photos, day-to-day goings on, etc.
@jeridansky One of the things I've been trying to do, at least for myself, is pick a front or two. Not to act like it is the only front, just the one where I'm trying to do what I can to help.
@jeridansky Yeah, the fact that I don't post about it doesn't mean I don't see it. There's only so much I can fit in one day, especially with limited energy.
