I re-affirmed that oath at every promotion through the rank of Captain. In 2021, I left the military and joined the U.S. Institute of Peace. To some, the move seemed counterintuitive: from war to peace. But the reasons were the same, I wanted to help protect America. USIP provides unique value to Americans as a Congressionally funded non-partisan institute that maintains relationships throughout the world regardless of the ever-changing executive branch. USIP exists primarily to inform Congress on foreign affairs and test out peace building programs in conflict-prone regions. When Afghanistan fell, I lived at USIP for weeks with colleagues to help provide safe passage to American citizens and allies. I was also privileged to support USIP’s Southeast Asia team mapping out transnational criminals. These criminals use crypto scams to steal from Americans and fund violence around the world. The team’s work led to U.S. government action that financially defended Americans and helped stabilize the region. I applaud every legal effort to improve government efficiency. However, getting rid of USIP makes the world more dangerous. Just like a world without vaccines will be full measles, a world without USIP will have more conflict. The blame for the future increase in global conflicts is quite clear: Trump. America is not one of his companies that he can bankrupt when he gets it wrong. Global conflicts will rise, more countries will seek nuclear weapons in response, Americans will pay the price, and the Trump Administration will be responsible. Equally importantly, Trump has no authority to eliminate USIP. As a Congressionally mandated organization in a privately funded building, USIP can be changed by Congressional action alone. I am confident the courts will eventually agree, but USIP will join the long list of democratic norms and institutions that are irreparably harmed by the Trump administration. I will always want the best for America. Sadly, I am certain that without USIP’s efforts, Americans will suffer in a more dangerous world. I am so grateful for my time at USIP and the incredible professionalism that my colleagues brought to every issue. I will always cherish the selfies and texts of Americans and allies who made it out of Afghanistan because of our efforts. I hope when Americans grow tired of violent conflict, government chaos, and economic recession brought on by the Trump administration, we can build on this imperfect system that for nearly 80 years has brought unprecedented global stability and American prosperity knowing more than ever that a rising tide lifts all boats. @heidilifeldman I am reading Caro's book "The Power Broker" about Robert Moses.

It is interesting how the methods that Moses used to run-over the NY city and state governments is very similar to what the Musk-Dog-ies and Project 2025 gang are doing.

Moses went through the motions of asking oversight bodies for permission, but he also went ahead to get construction of his projects (even without permission) to begin and progress to the point where by the time the oversight body acted it was too late to put things back the way they were.

It is pretty clear that the Musk-o-vites are working to destroy agencies before courts (or our feckless Congress) can try to stop things.

In our national case, we are in a humpty-dumpty situation where FFOTUS is breaking our governmental eggs so quickly and furiously that there will be no way to restore the status quo ante.

@karlauerbach @heidilifeldman How did I miss that? 100% they’ve taken the Robert Moses playbook. Or, now that I think about it, perhaps the Project 2025 team laid it out for them.
