William Pietri

I am soon moving to Chicago, which is generally great, but it looks like my only ISP option is Comcast, which is not. Do people have tips on what plan to choose and tricks to wrangle what seems like an adversarial relationship? I'll be working from home doing programmer things.

@williampietri
T-Mobile makes a gateway that works with 5G phone service, have used it for about a year now with no problems, might be an option depending on availability

@williampietri I moved recently and an in a similar position, Comcast is the only option. Get a Comcast business connection if you can afford/justify it. Sounds like you could maybe write off the ridiculous cost, at least. The business division doesn’t dick you around like the consumer side. I have business because I wanted more than 10Mb up, and that’s the most xfinity will give you here, but it seems like a much better experience than the stories I hear too

@williampietri if you can finagle it, get Comcast Business. Any increase in cost is more than made up by the fact they are a lot more responsive and helpful. Though you do have to suffer an occasional attempt to upsell, it isn't too terrible.

@williampietri We have Comcast and it seems to work (relative to low/moderate expectations). Bought our own docsys modem, the two people in the household each have logins to the Comcast website to download invoices, I don't know, I don't think about it very much which I guess is a good sign?
