@friedoxygen When I graduated with a BA in Rhetoric, I wanted to work in publishing, at entry level as a copy editor. Unambitious. But in the year I finished, two publishing houses had closed their SF offices, leaving their sub-editors scrambling for work. As a fresh grad I didn't get a look-in. As a result, I ended up in Japan. And in the end I'll naturalize and die here. So there's a worked example: these things have consequences.
