Yreka - 1st session of work: basic outline and initial background color laid down. This is a 16x20 canvas. I'm annoyed at myself that I missed a spot.

Yreka - I've worked a second hour on this piece. I focused on getting the blue sky down as well as the visible details of Mount Shasta. For the background I'm working from a photo I took a month ago.

Yreka - I've now worked four hours on this piece. I added a third layer to the sky and work more on the rooster's face and shirt. This is a 16x20 in canvas and I'm using acrylic paint.

I worked on the mountains more and then on the initial pieces of my rooster-man farmer: comb, waddles, beak, feathered head, sleeves and overalls.
I didn't like the brush strokes and insconsistency in the sky's color so I added a third layer. I then worked more on the rooster's face refining the beak, facial detials, comb, and feathers. I also worked more on his shirt sleeves.

I worked for 90 minutes on Yreka today, focusing on the background.

Started by adding vegetation to the closer hill. Then some ochre/yellow to the foreground.
Detail look at the vegetation on the closer hill.

I worked another hour on Yreka and I figure I have about one more hour left. I already have the next one in this series storyboarded.

Arms, shirt, and buckles painted but the arms will need more work.

Yreka - 16x20 acrylic on canvas. The piece took me about seven hours spread out over a month to complete. It's inspired by a photograph I took last month while returning home from Canada.

A rooster headed farmer in a light blue shirt and green overalls. He's staring across the landscape. Behind him are the golden fields of a late California summer, a low cinder cone mountain covered in oak trees and finally towering above all, Mount Shasta just visible in the haze.
