I've been working on this essay forever. About my ancestral grandmother Ellen, her spreading the Lost Cause Myth, which justified lynching, and living in Mississippi at the same time as anti-lynching crusader Ida B. Wells-Barnett. I feel good about it, but it's long, 3400 words, and complicated in my expanding understanding of the deep damage Ellen did. I don't know if anyone will ever want to publish it. But I've done what I can. Now for readers.

Writing books takes longer than some people think. The reason your favorite author is talking about a book they're finishing that doesn't come out until next year is that they are going through edits and setting up promotions.
Getting from "I have an idea!" to "I finished my book!" takes a lot more work than some people think. And a lot more time.
Give yourself space and time to work. Then hire me if you need help.
