Q7. What would you do if you're interested in buying a new bike but your local "dealer" never actually carries any stock? In my particular case, I'm thinking about a @ternbicycles GSD. My LBS would special order but why give them a cut when they're not normally bothered to sell any of the brands bikes?

(What are the benefits of involving your local bike shop? Is it a good idea?)

After a lifetime of biking & 15 years volunteering well over 22K unpaid hours as a bike advocate, in 2024 we got our 1st pricey bike. We’d admired those of others (including Velo Monterey rider with a $13K lightweight ebike—definitely not in our budget!).

Although a fraction of that cost—yet still far costlier than we’d ever had—a Tern NBD P8i became a necessity after covid impacted our riding ability. (In fact, for most of a yr we couldn’t really ride because we didn’t have a suitable post-covid bike.) A physical therapist who rides recommended Tern. We saw the Tern NBD—low to ground, wide step-thru, class 1 (no throttle) —at Sea Otter Classic.

But our budget couldn’t swing it. Then, bless them, getting a Tern became possible thanks to our son and daughter's support for our bike advocacy!

We found the best dealer in our local () region to be Current eBikes, . Their service is excellent! currentebikes.com/local-ebikes

@bikemonterey My wonderful stolen bike was a Tern. (It had been fully reimbursed by the town of Paris).
I traveled a bit with him (by train as well) but only 2 months... 🥹

@bikemonterey @ascentale @geodarcy a @ternbicycles ! Lovely bikes! Well thought through. The kind of bike you get when the designers actually ride it themselves. All the bits are in the right place, can be serviced with a minimal set of tools. I use a BYB for commuting (12km ride, 25 min train, another 4km ride) and I love it!
