April erscheinen soll. Die Beta-Version bietet nicht nur Images von #Ubuntu #Desktop,
#Server und #Cloud-Produkten, sondern auch von den Varianten #Kubuntu, #Lubuntu, #UbuntuBudgie, #UbuntuKylin, #UbuntuMATE, #UbuntuStudio, #Ubuntu #Unity und #Xubuntu.

@isAdisplayName I was remembering something from around 2012, as it turns out:

The founder and CEO of Canonical (the company that develops Ubuntu), Mark Shuttleworth, apparently defended this. I haven't been able to find any financial information on Canonical more recent than 2008, and since it's privately held there's no reason we should know what kinds of deals they're making.
I don't know all the details of what the Linux Mint people are up to either, but I haven't seen anything unethical like this so far, and there is not such an obvious profit motive in that project.
I suppose it's more accurate to say I want to cut #Canonical out of the loop.

in the past few weeks i've built a new personal server, and put a headless #debian system on it (my first debian install). got apache up and running, iptables, fail2ban, ssh authentication by security key only. quite proud of figuring all that out.
yesterday, i managed to resize the filesystem on my laptop's occasionally needed windows partition, resize the whole partition, and then smash debian as the third OS on this little book. somehow managed not to destroy anything except the #ubuntu partition's ability to secure boot. turning off secure boot in the bios allows me to boot just fine.
that ubuntu partition is going away anyways. i've been sick and tired of canonical's crap but as an adult (who doesn't work in tech) i don't often have/find the time to fuck around with computers like when i was younger. for example, i still can't get the wireless printer at work to be recognized by debian. so i have to boot into ubuntu in order to do my job.
but rest assured, i will conquer this hurdle as well, and that ubuntu partition is going straight into the volcano.
i've learned more about #linux in the last couple weeks than in the last 18 years of using ubuntu. and i love it. understanding how your system really works, recognizing a cli command versus an application, being more aware of your cli options, getting comfortable reading a manual page and actually understanding it... i mean this is way we should strive to use all the tools around us. lest, we become the tools ourselves.
a lot of this was thanks to comrades who showed patience and guided me along the way. a lot of if was me cursing my computer and taking frequent smoke breaks. but mostly comrades.
so to anyone who might be interested in revamping their own digital life, feel free to hit me up with questions. i'm not an expert on shit, but i've gained a lot of experience and i feel like i gotta pass on the good karma. for all the bad actors in #foss world, there's still a lot of really good projects, and sometimes you just need someone who has their head in current events to help you sort out the grifters from the real pillars of #community .
and fuck #canonical

except #canonical . fuck you guys.

And the developers reaction to feedback? Almost denial that it had anything wrong and negation that they could and wanted to fix it, but them in came the #Canonical developers, fixing all the performance problems.
How lucky.
How lucky #Gnome was that #Canonical abandoned Unity and came back to it, and just at the right time when Gnome was at it's lowest bottom. Remember, how unacceptable Gnome's performance was? It was unusable to a lot of people, an annoyance and hindrance to most users. My scars still feels itchy when I remember...
