Spring 2012 raw puerh from Qiaotoushan, (National Protected Forest,) 10 years in Xizihao Daughter's (I suspect) very dry Taiwan storage. Flavor-wise, it is a quiet tea; "soft power" is the phrase I often use for raw puerh with this sort of character.

Since I always say White2Tea's Arbor Red is black tea for puerh drinkers, I was curious to see how Arbor Red would react to brewing in Jiri Duchek Rye stoneware, instead of the usual ruyao gaiwan, would affect the tea. (I usually only brew young raw puerh in Duchek Rye stoneware.) My initial impression is it makes a huge difference, smoothing the rough edges of the tea. Maybe a little too much?

Dancong Oolong are often called after a fragrances they evoke, sometimes these fragrances are familiar to Western audiences, sometimes they are not. This Po Tou Xiang Dancong from MyTeaPal is one of the "not". Supposedly evocative of the flowers of Chinese Violet (Telosma cordata), I've got no frame of reference for the scent. It is a very nice!

My wife is out of town, so I can enjoy this burly black tea from White2Tea on Saturday morning. 2018 Arbor Red is a bit smoky, a bit bitter, touch of returning sweetness; definitely a black tea for people who enjoy aggressive raw puerh.

2021 To Be Addicted raw puerh from Xizihao Daughter Tea. "...from unmanaged ancient tea gardens near Laowushan and Heshangsi (monk temple), which are about 2400 m above sea level. It is 100 % spring 2021 gushu material. The tea has a rock sugar-like taste, similar to Bingdao teas and a unique orchid note of Xigui teas." At this point, it doesn't grab me as something I love, but I am not over fond of very young raw puerh, no matter the quality.

2010 Golden Leaf Huang from Xizihao Daughter Tea. Huang (pian) is made from tea leaves that are sorted out during the production process, usually because they are too developed, too large, or for other aesthetic reasons.
Some vendors will posit Huang Pian as a good way to try teas from regions whose teas are expensive.
On the other hand, Huang Pian leaves tend to have different flavor characteristics from the leaves that are chosen to be used for actual raw puerh. They also are distinct in how they can be brewed and how they age.

Vincent told me this year's MyTeaPal Club rock teas, (April, 2025,) are nicer than the batch from last year, (February, 2024,) but this Dong Pian Rou Gui from last year IS actually very good. Medium-Heavy Oxidation and roast, a bit uncommon in modern rock tea producers.
Xizihao Daughter mostly sells raw puerh, but they also sell ripened puerh and the odd Black tea batch. I don't know much about this 2022 "Wild Black" other than it is from "Unmanaged Gardens" somewhere in Vietnam. It has the fruity character I associate with Yunnan sun dried black tea and good durability/length of flavor. A good zippy morning cup.

In 2019 and 2020, Xizihao Daughter released white and black wrapper "Taiji" raw puerh teas from "Unmanaged Gardens" in Banzhang Laozhai meant to evoke their famous 2006 Laobanzhang Taiji releases. The 2020 black wrapper version I am trying today is a very nice young puerh but currently at a quiet phase in its flavor evolution. Beautiful after taste and wonderful energy.

"Dragon Cake" (2018) is another younger raw puerh from Xizihao Daughter. Not as muscular as Drunk, nor as floral-complex as Spreading Joy. A nice middle between the two. (The piece I got in the sample is ridiculously dense, includes a bit of the notch on the back of the cake.)

Taiwan based Xizihao Daughter has even more opaque tea names and descriptions than White2Tea. For a long time they didn't even have a website. To be honest, I am not really sure how to differentiate their teas beyond price. They do have very nice tea wrappers. I can tell you I enjoy their 2018 Spreading Joy raw puerh more than their 2021 Drunk raw puerh.

Jinjunmei black tea was initially created as a premium bud only tea from a limited geographic region in Fujian targeted at the luxury tea market. A lot of producers now make Jinjunmei-like teas sourced from other regions and with less exacting pick standards. White2Tea's "Daily Jinjunmei" is one of those (though it is from roughly the same region as "real" jinjunmei). Dark stonefruit, herbs, and brown sugar are my tasting notes for Daily Jinjunmei from White2Tea.
Yong Chun Fo Shou from MyTeaPal is a very green Fujian oolong , low oxidation and little to no roast. Enjoyable and perfume forward, more in modern Anxi or Taiwan style than Wuyi.
