Judge #AmyBermanJackson of the Federal District Court in Washington said she intended to issue an order later on Friday preventing the #CFPB’s workers from being cut off from the agency’s system, as the agency’s leaders had planned. She said she intended to follow up later this month with a more extensive hearing on the planned #layoffs. Until then, they will not move forward, she said.

In court filings ahead of the hearing, Mark Paoletta, the bureau’s chief legal officer, defended the #purge, which he said would “right-size” an agency filled w/ “vast waste.” Paoletta said he & others had determined that it needed only 200 workers. Many legally required units — including those that focus on #FairLending, #StudentLoans & protections for older Americans — need only one! employee, he said.

The biggest lie Trump and Vance told America in 2024 was that they cared about the well-being of ordinary people."

Lifehacker: All the Companies That Have Paused US Sales Due to Tariffs (So Far). “If you, like me, are an American, it’s our country that’s throwing these tariffs at nations around the world. As such, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see companies pause sales and business in the U.S. for the time being. While there aren’t a ton of organizations running with this playbook, there are […]

That’s the most ever on record and up 67% from the same week a year earlier, according to new data provided by Autotrader parent company Cox Automotive.'

@kobilacroix OFC #Greedflation will mean that corporations like #Apple will just 1:1 the prices even if the #USD:#EUR goes 2:1.

  • They already did it that in the past, and when the $:€ was >1,60:1, it was cheaper for folks to fly to #NYC, sleep one bight in a hotel, buy an #iPhone and fly back to #Germany with #customs & #ImportTax paid...

And yes, I knew a time when people got paid to order for pickup Apple devices in the #USA, fly back with them and properly declare them at customs because even at 2x19% tax + buying new chargers it was cheaper than accepting 60% price gouging.

  • So just because the #iPhone will get 104% tariffs in the #US and the #EU production never enters the US it'll likely get parity by numbers because Apple always flexes numbers in disadvantage for buyers!

Also no #retailer will accept sucking up the losses, cuz even if Apple were to make 80% margin on their devices at their stores, they'd be in the red without raising prices...

  • But in essence you're correct: #Consumers WILL GET SHAFTED and not the corporations - that's how it's always been! (Ask Brazilians about non - domestic-built game console prices!)…
