Our introduction question with help from @xtaran:

Q1. Where are you posting from today? What's something that you _don't_ do by cycle, but do by car? What would a cycle need to change that?

cc @bikenite

@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1. I'm posting from Berkeley, CA today as usual. For me, it's camping. My camping trips are usually far from home, and about half of my trips are far from paved roads and require a four wheel drive vehicle with high clearance. Sometimes, the vehicle I'm driving becomes my shelter at camp.

I do like to adventure in ways that don't involve driving a car, and that's probably one of the reasons why I'm very interested in backpacking these days. Now, to find that public-transit-to-trailhead resource...

I enjoy backpacking too, and also do not drive. Haven't been out recently, since my main backpacking buddy moved away. I wonder if there are more people around here who might like to do a backpacking trip by transit?

I've often thought about section hiking PCT from Echo Lake to Donner Summit. The California Zephyr will take you from Emeryville to Truckee, and I think TART might be able to get you to Echo Lake from Truckee, and maybe from Donner to Truckee after the hike.

Sorry, Phil @ascentale, I turned a little tiny portion of into HikeNite!

Maybe we should start a little car-free backpacking group!

Yes! I think we should. Open to all, but it would be great if we found some Bay Area people who are interested in this too. More local people involved increases the chances of an actual hike/backpacking trip happening.

I'll see what's
