With a cycling buddy, I drove 900km to the small town of Glen Innes for a gravel ride in the Northern Tablelands in a region of northern New South Wales called New England.

I've never been here before and, to be honest, it's a lot like the Southern Highlands which is much closer. It's also very British with lots of Scottish and Welsh references.

The ride was organised by Goodness Gravel and was a much smaller and more personal ride than the Classic series.

We completed the 75km ride in good time and good spirits, despite some strong and relentless headwinds.

We've got a few more days here and are planning some riding/exploring tomorrow.

Bit of much needed tinkering time... years back I bought this slightly too small but light trek sl1200... I then modded the rear mech with a wolftooth to get a bigger range. It had glorious... but slightly sketchy/flexy whr540 wheelset on it... found some r500 cheap and went back tonight to standard 11-28 x3. Oh and garish new tape! #BikeTooter #bikesofmastodon

While we truly appreciate ALL the voices of people who bike, it’s a special joy to have the input of Phil of Oakland / @ascentale. Phil is a bike commuter dad, a LCI, and is also now a @BikeEastBay staffer. Hear what Phil and others, ages 12+ had to say. Voices of People Who Bike, Part 4: bikemonterey.org/voices-of-peo.

At , we met a sales professional who showed an unusual level of respect for individual needs by listening attentively before selecting and showing us a product. That was Dale Aguas, sales director for Stile Products, Inc, an exclusive distributor of Tern Bicycles / @ternbicycles.

We were impressed by the Tern NBD for so many reasons—including, as Dale demonstrated—NBD’s FlatFold feature. Indeed “it makes it easy to fit the bike into , , RVs, and even smaller cars. Just lower the seatpost, fold down the Physis Handlepost, and the NBD transforms into a low and flat package….No necessary.” ternbicycles.com/en/bikes/471/

We enjoyed checking out the extraordinary bikes from this Canadian company yesterday at and appreciate that James Raia wrote this story for .

"Dean Miller started an reselling organization in 2006 with his cousin Joel, who had experienced a serious injury. Miller and Bagg quickly collaborated." From "Adapting the cycling experience to overcome physical challenges" by James Raia. montereyherald.com/2024/04/20/

@sam When we were able to contribute 21 items to Monterey County Free Libraries branch in Castroville, we asked the branch manager to make the selections, so the new items would best meet patrons' needs. See the list of what they came up with in bikemonterey.org/castroville-l.

BTW although over 60% of Monterey County is Hispanic/Latino, only 4 of the 21 items are in Spanish. That doesn't reflect a bias of the branch manager; it points to the need for and to make more -language books and other materials about bicycling!

We helped with the first Salinas rides and loved them. Photo is from a 2012 SBP ride.

We've also enjoyed some Santa Cruz .

In Sept 2023 we responded to some media reports by writing "Rideout or Rude Out? Make your bike party courteous, safer, legal, and fun."
People organizing group social rides may find the 2-pg PDF in that post helpful. bikemonterey.org/rideout-or-ru
